BENEFITING: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
EVENT DATE: May 05, 2013
Help support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!
This May, in honor and support of my brother Jason's niece, Maria, I will be running the Pittsburgh Marathon with him to raise funds to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
In November 2012, his family received devastating news. Jason's niece, Maria, was diagnosied with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Maria, 16, the picture of health, was getting ready to leave for a soccer tournament in Maryland when she told her mother, Lisa, that she had been experiencing chest pains. Maria was taken for a CT scan that revealed a large mass next to her heart; she was eventually diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and began an intensive chemotherapy regime.
Today, Maria is in remission! However, research has shown that continued treatment of ALL is necessary in order to be cured of the disease. Thus, Maria is still undergoing intensive chemotherapy at this time. Maria's attitude, strength, and will is an inspiration to all. She has tremendous support from family and friends, as well as an amazing staff at Children's Hospital. Words of encouragement are welcomed at www.carepages.com, search "GodBlessMaria".
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society funds vital research to perfect current cancer treatments and uncover new therapies, in addition to providing support for patients and their families.
Please help me reach my goal of raising $250 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. To donate - click the black "Donate" box on this page. Thank you for your support!
