Krissana Mara Organizing & Independent Journalism Funds
Organized by: Krissana Mara
Hi friends & family,
My involvement in people’s movement began in 2009 when I first moved to the bay area and I haven't looked back. I’ve contributed as an artist, journalist, filmmaker, and activist for Anti-War, LGBTQ & Women's rights, Education, Labor, Occupy, and Anti-police Brutality movements consistently for the past 6 years. All my work was done for the public to tell the stories of the voiceless and out of love for social justice that is paid for by my own time and labor. Now that the fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline & the Indigenous struggle have taken precedence, I found myself yet again in the frontline organizing, participating in nonviolent direct actions, and initiating video projects that would assure coverage for water protectors where mainstream media would not reach.
I joined the Mississippi Stand camp (www.mississippistand.com) beginning of October and have been a part of Media, Direct Action, and Community Outreach teams with the commitment to see our struggle to the end. On October 13th, as a part of our routine direct action effort, I locked myself to an excavator of the pipeline construction site in Keokuk, Iowa delaying their construction for the day. Currently I am in Twin Cities gearing up for the intense Winter chapter which brings incredible new developments as well as inevitable confrontation with police violence that will need people with media skills to capture everything that happens.
I work independently and autonomously with no ties to any organization or employer, though this comes with immense flexibility which is valuable in many spaces, it also drove me to poverty. All my equipments (laptop, DSLR, memory cards, mic, and tripod) badly need an upgrade and with demanding amount of work coming up, I need up-to-date equipment to be able to produce work more efficiently.
In addition, the day-to-day expenses such as food, traveling, and outreach materials have already put me in debt. I would not have considered donation unless it is the last resort and I have now reached that status. So please contribute however you can so that I can continue my work, and continue to fight for a better future that belongs to us all.
Thank you so much for any of your help and let love & justice prevail!
