Less than 25 weeks left! I also talked my best friend from high school (who informs me that he doesn't run) into doing it, as well!  See more

Health has long been considered a human right, and access to medicines is a fundamental element in achieving this right. The UN's Human Rights Council explicitly states that nations have a responsibility “to ensure access to all, without discrimination, of medicines, in particular essential medicines, that are affordable and of good quality.”

Despite the recognition of health as a human right, the World Health Organization estimates that one-third of all human deaths result from medical conditions that have existing treatments and cures, evidence that states are not effectively ensuring access to essential medicines.

To support Universities Allied for Essential Medicines' efforts to support access to essential medicines worldwide, I am running the San Francisco Marathon on July 31, 2011 (my first since fracturing my spine from over-training/carrying law school this one's special to me!). I have pledged to raise $26.20 for each mile of the marathon (26.2 miles). Please help me reach my goal of raising $686.44.

The return on your donation is not just one life saved. You are paying into saving whole families and communities. In fact, your gift goes to saving thousands, one generic medicine at a time. A gift, of whatever size, helps change the inequitable and unneeded university policies that prevent medicines and other medical technology discovered on campuses from reaching poor countries, and the individuals who are too poor to pay brand-name prices.
