I've pledged to walk 1 MILLION steps (that's over 400 miles!) to raise awareness of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, a rare and life-threatening disease that affects the arteries in the lungs and the right side of the heart. There is currently no cure for PAH, and approximately 50% of people diagnosed with it will die from the disease within five years.
My family has been personally touched by this disease. In 2011, my mother was diagnosed with PAH. She struggles with it every day, but she is an incredibly strong woman and I know she'll beat the odds!
PAH makes it extremely difficult to breathe, turning everyday tasks -- such as taking a shower, preparing a meal, or doing the laundry -- into massive challenges. My mom and many other PAH patients require supplemental oxygen 24 hours a day. My mom's determination to overcome these obstacles is a constant source of inspiration.
It's my hope that this effort will raise awareness so more research can be done to develop better treatments and ultimately find a cure. New treatments will help to extend life expectancy and allow PAH patients to live fuller lives.
Please help me by donating to my fundraiser. Your contribution will go to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, which is responsible for promoting awareness and funding new research.
I'm extremely grateful for your support!
