The fundraising team at AFS-USA knows how to get things done. Once in a while, we even manage to get out of the office :D
To prove it, we're running the NYC Marathon in 2013! Help me celebrate this achievement by honoring our great organization.
For those of you unfamiliar, here's some AFS-USA 101:
AFS Intercultural Programs began as the American Field Service (AFS). Young Americans who volunteered as ambulance drivers during World Wars I and II, having witnessed the devastation of war, launched the student exchange program in 1947. The founding belief was that building a more just and peaceful world begins when people from different countries and cultures meet, learn together and better understand one another. That year, 50 students from 10 countries that had been involved in WWII arrived in the US, establishing a movement to promote understanding and peace through international student exchange.
Today, AFS-USA sends around 1,000 US high school students for a year, a semester, or a summer of study abroad, and welcomes over 2,000 international students to the US, annually. Our work is made possible by a network of 5,000 dedicated volunteers nationwide.
AFS-USA provides more than $4 million dollars in scholarships, with 50% of US participants receiving some form of financial aid or scholarships each year. Faces of America, AFS-USA’s signature diversity program, provides high achieving students from underserved communities with scholarships to study abroad for a summer, semester or year in 17 unique destinations.
We <3 AFS-USA :)
