Rural Community Radio

Bringing a non-commercial, educational community radio station to La Grange, Texas and Fayette County.

Rural areas have historically been underserved by media outlets that are concentrated in major metropolitan areas. Under the Local Community Radio Act of 2010, the FCC grants licenses to radio stations in rural areas to provide local coverage of matters in the public interest. We provide programming to promote the local heritage of Fayette County, its citizens and visitors to the area. The FCC has granted Texas Independent Media/KTIM FM 89.1 the final license of this kind.

Fayette County has a growing population, with a sizeable portion of non-residents with second or weekend homes. KTIM FM 89.1 will serve both full-time and part-time residents that are traditionally underserved by media outlets based in Houston and Austin.

As part of our educational mission, we have partnered with the La Grange Independent School District to introduce five media classes at La Grange High School for the first time. We are sponsoring a Media Club, which will provide hands-on training for students to produce, script and deliver content through traditional radio broadcasts, as well as new media applications such as Internet video and live reporting of events.

Our on-air geographic coverage area is Fayette County, Texas, with some transmission overlap into Colorado, Lavaca, Gonzalez, Bastrop, and Lee Counties. Our coverage map indicates an expected reach of 45,000 potential listeners. Listen to our sampler of news, music and sports coverage.

Texas Independent Media is a not-for-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization and is registered with the State of Texas. We exist as the legal entity to provide fundraising and organizational support for KTIM FM 89.1.
