THE STORY:

Jazelle Prado wrote -

Kupuna in Hawaiian means an elder, generations before us who help guide others with their spiritual wisdom and presence, and is our starting point of growth. In Hawaii like much of the world our elders are very important to us. We help take care of them as they helped to take care of us. In 2014 there were 3 million households with seniors experiencing food insecurity, with 1.2 million living alone. A decline in seniors micronutrient intake can increase risk for cognitive dysfunction and disease related to nutrition. The Kupuna kitchen would help alleviate the difficulties our Kupuna face with healthy, affordable, and nutritional meals cooked in their own homes. There are many factors that can cause malnutrition in this at risk group such as transportation, physical limitations, and health factors. We will personally work with each Kupuna to make individualized meal plans that fit their needs. The Kupuna Kitchens mission is to help give back to our elders by sharing our company and culinary skills in their homes. We believe food should be accessible to everyone. It is evident that many seniors go without proper nutrition, some are able to participate in the meals on wheels program. There are a few programs that are available for our Kupuna but for various reasons they are not able to participate in them. No matter the situation an individual is in we will do our best to help them get the nutrition they need. We look forward to helping Kupuna who may need financial help by helping fund groceries per individual needs. Your donation will help kick start the necessary funding to start Kupuna kitchen. From the licensing, marketing, to helping Kupuna who are interested in our program but may not be able to afford our services. We will help any Kupuna who comes our way, as we have a passion for cooking and would like to share this with everyone. Our founder is a trained and certified Culinary individual with more than 10 years in different kitchens. Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much), The Kupuna kitchen team
