BENEFITING: Cancer Research Institute, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Oct 10, 2015
Mileage Tracker: 136
I'm hiking the Grand Canyon in October and wanted it to mean more than just a personal challenge.
Getting ready for this beast of a hike has meant a lot of miles going up and down large objects. It gives you a chance to think. During a training session a while ago I started mulling over how much fun my Dad would have if he could do this trip. During college he was a whitewater rafting guide and constant camper. Before he got sick he took me to national parks all over the country, including The Canyon. But he never got to do this hike.
After a lot of thought, I've decided I wanted to dedicate this challenge to my Dad and everyone else who has fought cancer, win or lose. In his memory, I'm raising money for the Cancer Research Institute. They do great work and are one of Charity Watch's "Top Charities". 90% of donated funds go directly to research and clinical trials.
If you're unable to donate or don't want to, I completely understand. But it would be amazing to make this challenge even more worthwhile and raise money to fight a disease that affects so many. Rim to rim is a total of 25 miles. Donate $1 per mile, $0.50 per mile, or $5 per mile, whatever feels right.
Whether you decide to donate or not, I do ask that you share the link for this campaign page on facebook, through email, smoke signals... whatever floats your boat. It takes a few seconds but could make a world of difference.
Thank you. You're all awesome and don't let anyone tell you different. I can't wait for the Canyon.
