Hi All!

We made it to the top of Mt. St. Helens and back down successfully and without any injuries. It was very challenging, but an amazing experience. The views were breathtaking. As each of us struggled at some point throughout the day, we reminded ourselves of all those fighting sarcoma. The pain and mental toughness they have to face each day. What we were doing felt easy when we thought about them.

Over $6,000 was raised for the Sarcoma Foundation of America. My goal was $5,000 so I feel really good about it. Thank you to each of you for your contribution and generosity. Important research towards a cure and better treatments can't happen without donor support.

If you're not on Facebook and would like to see photos and video from our journey, email me at: renae.henderson@gmail.com. There is also a small video posted at www.crowdrise.com/sarcomahikeforhope.

I'll be doing future fundraising for the Sarcoma Foundation of America under the Oregon State Chapter. You can find on Facebook and "like" if you want to stay posted on future events by searching "Oregon Chapter of the Sarcoma Foundation of America." Even though it's Oregon, the money is used on a national level for research.

Thank you again for all your support!

Hello to all you generous do…
Hello to all you generous donors!

I wanted to thank you all again for your donation to the Sarcoma Foundation of America via the Sarcoma Hike for Hope. It's at a little over $4,300, and it's because of each of you that it's been such a success.

I think most of you know, but my surgery went fantastic and they were able to keep my finger! It is healing well and I am hoping the wound will be closed in another few weeks. It's very stiff and sore and always bent, but I'm hoping that improves over time.

I had to take a few weeks off from training after the surgery, but it's now back on in full swing. It has been a lot of time on the StairMaster and running. I look forward to getting in some local hikes once the rainy season here comes to an end.

In addition to raising funds for the Sarcoma Hike for Hope, I am now serving in a more ongoing role with the Sarcoma Foundation of America by serving as the State Chapter Leader for Oregon. I am very excited to continue to help spread awareness and raise funds for research and better treatments. This also means that I can hopefully make the Sarcoma Hike for Hope an annual event!

Please know that myself and everyone battling sarcoma greatly appreciates your donation. A 25-year-old man reached out to me the other day who came across the Sarcoma Hike for Hope on Twitter. He told me I'm the first person he has found who also has epithelioid sarcoma. He just had his hand amputated to save his life. He told me it was the happiest day of his life because it meant he was cancer-free and would have hope for a future. His attitude about it blew me away. I ask that you continue to help me spread the word on the Sarcoma Hike for Hope by sharing with your friends and family so that we can have better treatment options available and more research can be done. Sarcoma cancer is different than carcinoma (breast, prostate, etc.) in that it seems to have very little to do with lifestyle (weight, nutrition, exercise, etc.). They are beginning to put together the pieces that strongly suggest it is a genetic malfunction and possibly linked to environmental factors like pesticide exposure. If they can further unlock this mystery, there is so much greater hope for all of us with sarcoma.

I hope you all are well and healthy. Thank you again for your help and generosity.

Thank you for supporting the Sarcoma Hike for Hope by donating to the Sarcoma Foundation of America. I know there are many good causes out there, and it means the world to me that you chose mine. It gives me great motivation as I train to climb to the top of Mt. St. Helen's! Please share with your friends, family, etc. to help me spread the word and bring awareness to sarcomas.

Lots of hugs and many thanks,
