BENEFITING: SPORTS FOR KIDS INTERNATIONAL INC
This is an amazing opportunity to help a struggling single mother raise her 5 Dominican children in one of the poorest regions of the world. She is a hard working, Faith based Dominican mother whom works multiple jobs, but due to economic and social factors (out of her control), she just cannot make ends meet.
Seven years ago, we met the Jimenez family on the USA- LABC trip. They live in an impoverished community about 10 minutes from the LABC resort. We spent time each year visiting at the resort, allowing the children to enjoy "la playa" since they rarely get a chance to enjoy a pool or beach activities. Over the years, we have become very close and assisted them in basic essentials . We enrolled her four boys in a baseball league and provided extra money for food, medical bills, and clothing. In 2013, we learned of Santa Jimenez's dream to build a home in the community she called home for the past 17 years. She has moved from borrowed house to borrowed house, hoping that one day, she can finally settle into her permanent home. It also marks the time that we learned of the physical abuse she suffered at the hands of her now estranged husband, who rarely provided for them. Her current living situation (pic of non colored cement house/no windows) is not large enough to house her five children and they are currently separated to live with other family in the north. She desperately wants her family back.
For 14 years, cement blocks serves as the only existence of her dream home. They have little to eat and get assistance within their community when available. Santa works part time as a housekeeper and is trying to make a better life for her children. We introduced her to Esperanza - a non profit organization founded by former MLB player Dave Valle - which provides micro lending opportunities and teaches women business skills to make a better life for herself and family.
This project will be assisted by Bert Richardson (tournament director for LABC and founder of ISS) who will provide logistical support on all construction matters, Ivan Santana (family translator and personal friend) and through the non profit organization Sports For Kids International. 100% of your tax deductable gift (as allowed by law) will be utitlized - there is virtually no fundraising overhead, aside from the fees of this website. Together, we can make this dream come true for Santa and her children. When completed, the home will have running water, adequate electricity, basic appliances and furniture - all of which she never experienced.
We want to personally thank you for your support and prayers on this project.
With much gratitude,
Janine & Jim Parque
