BENEFITING: THOMAS G LABRECQUE FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: THOMAS G LABRECQUE FOUNDATION
Since 2012 I have been addicted to fundraising when I first raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society and ran my first half marathon. Last year was my favorite when I raised over $2000 for the American Diabetes Association and flew my dad out to Chicago to watch me run my first full marathon. Diabetes can take a toll on someone's life; leading to limb loss, blindness and so much more, so I figured I would challenge my body by pushing it to run 26.2 miles.
This year I have decided to push my limits and raise $3000 for the Thomas Labrecque Foundation; to fund research for lung cancer, and run the NYC Marathon. Since 2007 the foundation has been focused on funding research to detect lung cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage. Since 2009 100% of funds raised have gone to fund research, not overhead. Obviously fundraising for them was a no brainer.
To be honest, I have my doubts about running this thing. Working the night shift and training just isn't going hand in hand BUT the cause means a lot to me, and quite honestly should to EVERYONE because sadly, no one is immune to cancer. Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer in both men and women in the United States; every HOUR 20 people are diagnosed with lung cancer and of that twenty 18 people will die from it.
So I ask you to consider donating to my fundraiser for the Thomas Labrecque Foundation so we can raise money to find ways to detect lung cancer at its earliest stage.
