THE STORY:
Ben and Lacey love libraries! Because libraries are full of books! And books have knowledge! And knowledge is power.
The Howell Whitmire household has a very favorite public librarian: Emily Whitmire Sluder. She works in the Oconee County (S.C.) public library system. Donations to our charity registry go toward the Oconee County Friends of the Libraries organization. The Friends use these funds to buy new books, sponsor story time and weekend programs, upgrade computers, and much more.
Public libraries are experiencing dwindling support from local governments, while at the same time becoming increasingly critical resources for those learning to read, writing papers for the first time, and looking for their first job.
