La Escuela Pocora Sur Library
Organized by: Maria Miglioretti
In July 2014, 11 team members from 11 Whole Foods Market stores around the US and UK volunteered five days at La Escuela Pocora Sur in Limon, Costa Rica. We cleaned and painted the walls of the kindergarten, dug drainage ditches, cleaned and painted fence posts and installed new fencing. We worked side-by-side with members of the community. We also spent five nights in homes of community members. It was during this home stay that we discovered the children of the school, 56 children in K-6th grade, do not have a library. They do not own books because they are too expensive to buy, and the nearest public library is a two-hour bus ride away.
We decided we wanted to start a library for the school. 100% of your contribution will be used to buy books to send age-appropriate books (in Spanish) to the school.
