I'm on the Board of Engineers for Blue Engine - a new non-profit that combats college under-preparedness by recruiting and supporting teams of Blue Engine Teaching Assistants (BETAs), recent college graduates who partner with classroom teachers to increase academic rigor in public high schools.
Did you know that only 15% of students from low income communities who enter college graduate?
That needs to change. And we can help.
In its first school year (2010-11), Blue Engine tripled the college ready rate in Algebra for its first partner school.
It's tough to stay involved from the opposite coast so this spring I will run the Hollywood 10k for Blue Engine. It's a short run, but I have a lofty goal to beat my personal best time. It's the least I can do for all the students and BETAs in New York City who are working hard to beat their personal best each day in class.
Any donation will truly help!
