Every hour a Veteran commits suicide according to the Department of Veteran Affairs! Animal Fair and Wendy Diamond were astonished by this alarming statistic - they partnered with K9s for Warriors to dedicate Wendy’s book tour to raising crucial donations and awareness for this cause. K9s For Warriors rescues dogs from shelters prior to being euthanized, and trains them to be CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certified service dogs for Veterans with PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury. This program is 100% proven, transparent and successful! 94% of every dollar donated to K9s For Warriors goes directly to the Veterans and service dogs. Only 6% is used for fundraising and overhead. Shari Duval, the founder and Executive Director takes no salary.
In Los Angeles, we will honor Rob, 33, who served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps for 8 years. He graduated from K9s For Warriors in February 2012, where he was paired with Bravo, a Labrador. Bravo was found in Georgia, underweight and terrified of being confined. However, after going through K9s For Warriors, he is very laid-back and lovable. Bravo loved the attention and care he received at K9s For Warriors and was a favorite among the staff and volunteers. Rob and Bravo are the perfect match – they both have an off-beat sense of humor! After retirement from the Marines, Rob purchased a commercial sewing machine and started a business custom making service vests and dog apparel. One of Bravo’s vests says “I’m with stupid.” Bravo clearly thinks Rob is the greatest, and Rob returns that sentiment.
Dogs are very therapeutic and helpful for treating PTSD and other military-related stresses.
K9′s For Warrior Program/Rescue’s success is a triumph for Veterans. Duval commented, “The warriors arrive here broken on two legs and leave here walking into their recovery on six. They are able to go and do things that were not possible before they received their service dog.” She added, “These dogs provide more medical improvement for the warriors than all the drugs they have been placed on.”
ALL donations raised on October 5, 2013 will directly benefit Veterans in the Los Angeles area – giving you, the donor, the power to support the Veterans in your local community! The organization is completely transparent, and through Social Media you will be able to follow and track the veteran and service dog that you personally helped save. If you are unable to attend, we hope you will still accept this invitation to get involved with this inspirational endeavor by creating a personal fundraising page to inspire your troops (fans, friends and coworkers) to become involved in a movement that is vital for us all. Your support will bring mainstream awareness to the importance of Service Dogs as the natural cure for PTSD! You can create a personal fundraising page by visiting our page and choosing a city to support, or just being a part of the main campaign! Please note you can donate $10, $20, $100, $500 or sponsor a Veteran/Service Dog Team in your community for $10,000. All donations are appreciated and much needed.
Thanks to our generous sponsors, the tour will 100% benefit K9s For Warriors. Ellen DeGeneres’ pet food company, Halo, Purely for Pets knows that natural nutrition is imperative for service dogs (and all dogs) because it ensures a long, happy life with their parents, and are on board with supporting the K9s For Warriors Bark Breakfast Benefit Tour! American Express Open has partnered with us to empower and support Veteran small business owners. The Loews and Omni pet-friendly hotels are graciously providing the space for the Bark Business Breakfast, so we can gather, raise money, and get the bark out about K9s For Warriors!
