“I think girls on the run is very fun and it is an opportunity to meet new friends and learning how to feel better about yourself. It makes you feel special and it is so much fun. Me and my mom ran the 5k and we are both proud of it. It made me feel great to be part of this. “-Christina, Lakeshore Team Fall 2012
Christina says it the best when she said "It makes you feel special". During this 10 week program girls learn how to celebrate who they are while working towards running a 5K. Along the way Girls on the Run teaches important life lessons such as being confident, healthy eating habits, positive emotional health and body image.
Although we have over 1,000 girls participating in this program this spring all over Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland County, unfortunately, many of our girls in the southern Macomb county area have not been able to participate due to lack of funding. What’s even worst is that many of these girls are the ones who would benefit the most from this program.
Our goal this year is to provide sponsorships for 36 girls within the following Southern Macomb areas to participate in the upcoming spring and Fall seasons:
- 12 girls at Reach Academy
- 12 girls at Chandler Park
- 12 girls at Lakeshore YMCA
Although all donations are greatly appreciate, please note our suggested levels of giving:
5k Level: $50 – sponsor one girl’s gear (Shoes, Socks, Shorts, and Shirt)
10k Level: $110 – sponsor one girl’s program fees
½ Marathon Level: $160 – total sponsor for one girl (including gear & fees)
Marathon Level: $1,920 – sponsor a full team of girls!
So whether you know me as a friend, have daughter of your own (or may in the future), a strong female role model in your life, or just want to support your community, just know that with this donation YOU are positively impacting a young girls life and trust me, SHE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!
GO, GIRLS, GO!!
