The mission of the Cheyenne River Youth Project is to give the Lakota youth of the Cheyenne River Sioux reservation access to a vibrant and secure future through our culturally sensitive programs, projects and facilities – ensuring strong, self-sufficient families and communities.

The Cheyenne River Youth Project (CRYP) was established in 1988, to meet the needs of youth and their families on the Cheyenne River Sioux reservation.  Although rich in culture and history, the Cheyenne River Sioux reservation has the unfortunate distinction of being located on two of the poorest counties in the nation, Ziebach and Dewey County.

Although poverty is exceedingly high and many social challenges often accompany such poverty, the CRYP has taken a stand to help improve the lives of young people and families on the Cheyenne River Sioux reservation so they may overcome these challenges and lead healthy, happy lives.

As the largest and most utilized after school program on the reservation, CRYP is an essential organization; vital to the community and currently serving over 1,200 youth annually and 400 families.  With innovative programs focused on education, leadership, sustainable communities, culture and arts and more, the staff and volunteers of the CRYP provide programs and services specifically through; the Main Youth Center, Ċokata Wiċoni "Center of Life” Teen Center, the Family Services Program and the Wiyan Toka Win “Leading Lady” Garden.
