Who is this handsome devil in the pictures Lala?
The boy in the pictures is my friend Benjamin who I met at the Touch A Life care center in Ghana. Benjamin was enslaved on Lake Volta and was doing backbreaking work as a fisherman since he was a very young boy. Ghanaian abolitionists rescued him, his brother and sister, and they have been living and recieving an education at the center for the last few years.
Where is the money going?
Because of a strong personal relationship with Benjamin I felt called to help support him in any way I could. Working with Touch A Life I am able to fund directly, 100% of the cost associated with sending him to private highschool when he comes of age. The money donated herein goes straight to Touch A Life and is earmarked specifically for Benjamin's highschool education.
Why the TCS Marathon and why TAL?
What is great about my having visited the care center in Ghana, is that I know first hand that 100% of the donations go directly to the children. Amazingly, through donations we are able to have a direct impact on changing the life of a child. But helping Benjamin is just the beginning because there are still more children that need to be helped and healed
The impetus for running the TCS Marathon on behalf of Touch A Life is to bring awareness to child exploitation and slavery in Ghana and beyond. Touch A Life currently has 47 children in their care but without funding they cannot provide long-term rehabilitative care for additional children who need help.
