Lancaster Area Habitat for Humanity is a non-denominational Christian ministry that mobilizes volunteers to build community, revitalize neighborhoods, and transform lives in partnership with community organizations and working families in need of safe, decent affordable homes across Lancaster County. Habitat’s mission is not just to build a home, it is to build community. The ultimate goal is to transform the lives of families and children and give them opportunities.
Each family completes hundreds of hours of sweat equity building or repairing their own homes, learns self sufficiency through financial and homeownership counseling, and is matched to a mentor for support. At completion, Habitat homes and repair services are sold at cost and financed affordably.
Since our founding in 1986, Habitat for Humanity has served 206 families in Lancaster, Denver, Ephrata, Elizabethtown, Columbia, and Quarryville, and 206 global families through tithe. 94% of all of our local Habitat homeowner families are living in their Habitat homes today and they have broken the cycle of poverty for future generations.
