BENEFITING: Navy SEAL Foundation
EVENT DATE: Jun 04, 2016
Friends and Family,
Today, Landon and I signed up for the Cayuga Trails marathon in Ithaca, NY(I made Landon ditch the 50 since they had different start times and I sure as hell am not doing 26.2 alone). The marathon is June 4, thus we have the next 11 days to figure out the best way to train for a marathon in 11 days. Since we are in trouble either way, we decided it would be best to run the marathon for something bigger than ourselves to ensure we make it to the finish. We immediately decided on the Navy SEAL foundation because of their 4/4 star rating by Charity Navigator meaning the 91% of the money donated goes straight to programs for SEALs in need (Wounded Warrior is about 50%).
SEAL stands for Sea, Air, and Land. These guys go where nobody wants to go in covert and dangerous missions(shout out to these guys for killing Bin Laden a year ago). They are mentally and physically most elite warriors in the world, (which is everything we pretend to be. OR SEALs are everything Landon pretends to be.) Regardless of your political affiliation(even you Bernie supporters), SEALs serve our country loyally and deserve our attention. Navy SEALs risk and sacrifice everything to keep us safe and unfortunately many end up with a myriad of financial and physical issues after retirement(military pay sucks, even for the most elite). The Navy SEAL foundation provides programs to help SEALs in need (read more here: http://www.navysealfoundation.org/what-we-do/).
I am asking all of you to open your wallet for a really good cause (or at the very least to enjoy the thought of Me and Landon in pain running a marathon in mediocre shape). Whether you are willing to admit it or not, people in our military sacrifice everything to keep us safe. Have one less Pina Colada at the bar or Venti Soy Latte from Starbucks this week and instead give to this great cause. Many have said there is nothing worse on this beautiful planet than erging a 2k and we both sure hope they are right. For all you non-classics majors(which I hope is most of you in this job market), the marathon was created when a messenger in ancient Greece ran 26.2 miles from the city of Marathon to Athens to warn of a military victory. He collapsed and died right after so hopefully we fare better than him.
