The Superhero Heart Run is the nation’s first superhero-themed family-friendly fun run specifically committed to raising awareness, support, and funding for kids and families affected by congenital heart defects (CHD). This cause is very near and dear to us.
5 years ago we found out we were expecting. Brian and I couldn't have been happier, our family of 3 was going to be bigger. At 20 weeks pregnant we found out that our son Landon had some major Congenital Heart Defects. From that moment on, we spent all the time we could researching CHD, and working with the Doctors to come up with a plan for Landon once he was born. Landon's case was one that they hadn't come across yet, so we didn't know what to expect.
At birth Landon seemed very healthy, but was in the NICU right away. He slowly started to decline, and at 4 weeks old had open heart surgery to correct what they could. After the surgery he was a totally different baby. He spent another 4 weeks in the NICU before we were able to take him home with us.
Sadly at about 4 months old Landon contracted RSV. We spent a couple of weeks in and out of the hospital trying to get everything under control. Unfortunately his little body could not take it, and Landon passed away. He is now our Guardian Angel.
