BENEFITING: FRIENDS WITHOUT A BORDER
EVENT DATE: Oct 23, 2016
As most of you know I am currently working at Laos Friends Hospital for Children in Luang Prabang. Now for the bit that I haven't told many people: on 23rd October (wow that's way too soon) I will be running 21km to raise money for this amazing hospital. I know a lot of you joke that I am on an extended holiday over here and I do feel very honoured to have the opportunity to live and work in such an amazing environment but really this is all about the children! In Laos you have to pay for healthcare (and as Laos is a very low income country with many families living in poverty) many families cannot afford this "luxury", meaning children often go without access to health care. Laos Friends Hospital for Children is changing this by providing free healthcare to all children under the age of 15 years old. I have seen first hand how dedicated the staff here are to providing compassionate and high quality patient care. The staff do a fantastic job every day and this is definitely making a huge impact by both saving lives and improving the quality of life of many children. So while I suffer getting up really early (and I'm sure you all know how much I hate early mornings) to run 21km before the Laos heat kicks in, dig into your pocket and support a great cause. You really can change a families life!
