EVENT DATE: Nov 30, 2014
Laps for lung Cancer is a swimming fundraising event. Our goal is to raise money for the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation and to raise the awareness that lung cancer is no longer just a "smokers" disease.
Join us at the Longfellow Club in Wayland, MA on Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 5 to 7:00pm. Coach Alex Cronin from the Phoenix at Bosse USA Swim Club will be the MC of the event. Start the new swim season off the right way! To participate in this event, join "the Team" at the top of this page. Create your own page and raise a minimum of $25 to participate. Each swimmer that raises $100 or more will be intered into a raffle for a new tech swim suit.
Here is some startling information about this insidious disease.
- Nearly 80% of new lung cancer cases are former and never smokers.
- Lung cancer takes more lives than breast, prostate and colon cancers combined.
- Lung cancer is the least funded cancer in terms of research dollars: for every $9 spent on breast cancer research, $1 is spent on lung cancer research.
- Lung cancer can impact anyone... Jill Costello, a 21 year old NCAA student athlete at Berkeley; 18 year old Taylor Bell, a soccer player at East Carolina University; 6 year old Gabby Wilson; 50 year old Liz Kennedy Pojar, a single mother from St Paul, MN.
