"Adaptive Rowers have Unique Needs - we provide Unique Solutions".
Louisville Adaptive Rowing is for anyone with any type of challenge/disability willing to learn and enjoy the Freedom on the River with their friends, siblings and/or family members.
Mission Statement: Provide a safe environment in which we can share the joys ofrowing with individuals with disabilities of all types and their non-disabled peers, siblings and/or family members. Raise the awareness of adaptive rowing on a worldwide basis through educational outreach. Design and develop unique equipment and techniques for anyone with any type of disability to attempt rowing.
LAR is holding true to our Mission, mentioned above. Many individuals with various disabilities are rowing with friends and family members. We do many Hands-on-Weekend Workshops for other clubs and programs wanting to start Adaptive Rowing Programs. LAR has guided and/or assisted over 20 programs, teams and/or individuals in 13 States as of January 2015. Our latest creative adaptation is Whitney’s brackets and oar handles (see video) so she can row with her forearms designed by our Paralympic Rowing Coach Bob Hurley. Each rower has unique needs and we provide unique solutions.
LAR operates on Saturday mornings year round from 7:00am to 12:00 noon at the Community Boathouse in Waterfront Park on River Road and we row in the channel on the Ohio River between Tow Head Island and the mainland.
