Our "Let's Move! Outside: Play, Learn, Serve, Work" Camp bridges the growing disconnect between youth and the great outdoors by introducing them to experiences that make the national parks their own. Over the course of 4 weeks, more than 400 underserved youth (100+ 4th graders) from San Francisco and the Bay area are introduced to experiences in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Although San Francisco is a small coastal city (surrounded on three sides by water) many of these youth are seeing the ocean for the first time. Other "firsts" include first time hiking, first time having s'mores, and first time doing community service in a park. 95% of the children in this program particiate through full scholarships; funds raised support the transportation and staffing that make this possible.
