Lara Marks, DPhil, Oxon, is the managing editor of the website WhatIsBiotechnology, a charitable educational resource.

A historian of medicine by training, Marks has published numerous articles and books in the field. Internationally, she is best known for her book Sexual Chemistry: A history to the contraceptive pill’(Yale University Press, 2001, revised edition 2010) and “The Lock and Key of Medicine”: Monoclonal Antibodies and the Transformation of Healthcare (Yale University Press, 2015). She has just completed editing a book commissioned by the Royal Society of Chemistry: Engineering Health: How biotechnology changed medicine (forthcoming, October 2017).

Dr Marks is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and is an honorary research associate at University College London.
