THE STORY:

Join hundreds for a 5K Walk/Run on the beautiful wooded campus of Northwood University in Midland, Michigan.  All funds raised are used in the Great Lakes Bay Region to host special events, trainings, and provide education in an effort to build awareness of mental health and suicide prevention, intervention and aftercare.

Our Walk for Hope is an opportunity to come together with others who believe in this cause.  It is our hope that this event will de-stigmatize suicide and encourage those who are struggling with mental health or other life challenges to seek out help from those who can support their needs.

Every 12.8 minutes someone dies by suicide in the United States.  In 2013 there were 41,149 people who died by suicide in the U.S.(CDC)  Of those in 2012, 1,295 family and friends were from right here in Michigan.  Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the United States (43.7 million or 18.6%) experiences mental ilness in a given year (NAMI). Less than one-third of adults and one-half of children with diagnosable mental health disorders receive mental health services in a given year.  (SAMHSA)

Registration is free; however, for every $100 in donations you raise, your name will be entered in a drawing for major prizes if you choose to fundraise.

One of our major prizes is a 6 person, 8 hour salmon charter fishing trip!

This family friendly event will feature guest speakers, live music by Sonic Freeway, a DJ on the walk route, resource tables, activity tables, face painting, light food, and HOPE!
