BENEFITING: Latham Centers Inc.
EVENT DATE: Aug 12, 2012
I have been involved over the last few years fundraising for The Latham Centers, a special needs care facility located here on Cape. This year I have volunteered to raise funds on behalf of The Latham Centers as part of the "Latham 10" - 10 individuals running the Falmouth Road Race as representatives of The Latham Centers and responsible for raising at least $10,000. Please show your support for this worthy cause. See the attached PDF to learn more about The Latham Centers.
Latham Centers, located on Cape Cod, offers nationally recognized innovative treatment and support services for two groups of individuals: 1) developmentally delayed girls and boys, and 2) children and adults with Prader-Willi syndrome. Their primary facilities are located on a campus in Brewster, with independent living and group homes located also in Brewster and other nearby Cape Cod towns for their adult programs.
Latham Centers originated in 1970 to provide residential care and treatment for girls and young women, ages 8-22. They now serve both boys and girls in this age bracket. Some of these individuals come from environments of abuse and neglect that have resulted in severe behavioral and emotional problems. Others have been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, or Reactive Attachment Disorder. The people they serve have histories of failed placements in foster care or treatment facilities, including psychiatric hospitals. Latham is a place of last resort for many of them. They provide a beautiful physical setting and an embracing environment where the people in our care can feel safe and have the opportunity to recover from their past traumas or learn life skills and coping mechanisms for these challenges.
