BENEFITING: The Los Angeles Trust for Children's Health
As a potential donor to the L.A. Trust, please allow us a few words. Your donation today goes directly towards our mission of improving student health and increasing readiness to learn through access, advocacy and programs. That's a big bite to take, but we feel it's vital. LAUSD has over 650,000 students, making it the 2nd largest school district in the United States. Here's the stark reality. Over 25% of these children are uninsured! More than 45% qualify for Medi-Cal, and over 76% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
It seems obvious that kids in pain and poor health struggle to learn and still it needs to be said. Latest research concludes that 8% (of 650,000!) (that's 52,000 for those of you playing along at home) of LAUSD students are suffering with dental pain. A full 10% suffer with asthma. 23%will contract a sexually transmitted infection and 40% suffer from obesity. The numbers are staggering.
With support from donors like you, we've been bringing vital health resources and solutions to the students, families and communities of Los Angeles Unified School District since 1991. This year alone we helped to open 12 of 14 brand new Wellness Centers on LAUSD school campuses throughout the city. These new access points for full-service integrated health care are focused on prevention and early intervention and are open to students and their families as well! No where else in the United States is this Wellness Center model found on this scale or at this level of investment. We know the eyes of the nation are upon us and we intend to meet this challenge head on, which is why we need you.
Please help us continue this work by making a donation today.
Thank you so very much!
