According to the World Health Organization, in Africa alone, preventable waterborne diseases account for approximately 700,000 deaths each year and many more are sickened.
Community Water Solutions (CWS) is a non-profit organization that works to establish sustainable, women-owned and operated water treatment businesses in rural communities in Ghana. CWS uses simple, affordable technologies to enable the treatment, distribution, and storage of clean, safe drinking water. The maintenance and operation of the businesses is funded by revenue from the sale of the treated water, while the capital and training necessary to establish them is generated by fundraising from the CWS fellowship program.
I am thrilled to have been selected as a CWS fellow and in January 2013 I will travel to Northern Ghana for three weeks to work with three other fellows to establish a sustainable water treatment business in a new village. Once established, this business will provide a permanent source of safe drinking water for 700-1000 people in Ghana and a small income to the women who own and operate the business.
As a fellow, I am responsible for raising $3000 by December 10th from donors like you. Your donation will go towards project expenses for the CWS water business my team will establish (including project materials, water quality tests and lab materials, fellow training & educational materials, translator salaries and the long-term monitoring costs in the community after my team leaves Ghana), as well as all my in-country expenses (such as travel, food and lodging).
I would greatly appreciate your help in reaching my goal. Your donation will make a direct difference in the lives of the people in Northern Ghana and I could not do this without your support. Thank you!
CWS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, and all donations are tax deductible.
