Dance-a-Thon’s are very similar to a walk-a-thon. Participants raise money by dancing. Supporters can register to dance by collecting as many pledges as possible, purchase a ticket to attend or donate directly to Launchpad.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Participants raise money by collecting pledges in advance of the event by promising to dance for a certain length of time without stopping. During the event, participants may dance for as long as they wish to, but, if the dancer stops dancing for a period of time deemed “too long” by the judges, they are disqualified. To register to compete in the Dance-a-thon, visit our Crowdrise page, create a profile and begin fundraising! WHAT
DOES IT COST?
Participating dancers in the “Dance-a-thon” must enter with a minimum pledge sheet of $25. On event day, dancers can donate the difference to enter the competition if they have not raised $25 in advance.
A FUN TWIST – “DANCE OFF’S”
Participants may at any time challenge another dancer to a “dance-off”. This is the only time that the dance floor is cleared by the judges, with the exception of the “competing dancers”. The dancer who declared the challenge must pick the music used in the dance off. The competing dancers square off until the judges declare a winner based on audience reaction. The ‘losing’ dancer is allowed to continue in the dance-a-thon, but must wear ankle or wrist weights for the remainder of their participation.
WHAT DO YOU WIN?
Prizes will be awarded throughout the evening to participating dancers for style and flair, imcluding a prize for best outfit. The last dancer(s) remaining will win (or split) a cash prize of $250!
Funds raised by the event are used to support the Robinson Ballet’s Ralph Robinson Scholarship Fund and Launchpad’s Forward initiative, which provides support to Maine Youth seeking to pursue a career in the arts.
