DAY TO GO
Laura Lynch is originally from the green fields of Delvin, a small village in Co.Westmeath Ireland and has been living in NYC for almost three years. She studied Business with Event Management whilst working with a successful wedding and event planning company in Dublin. After receiving her degree the opportunity arose to further her career and move to New York; the rest is history! Before relocating she spent three months traveling South East Asia and got in the ring for the very first time at a Muay Thai event in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand.
Laura's dad participated in boxing at a young age and the tales of his bouts always planted a curiosity of the sport with her but none of the others girls did boxing so it was never an option. She played field sports (Camogie) and Irish Dancing from a young age and was always very dedicated to everything she was involved in.
In early 2012 a friend of Laura's had started boxing at The Elite Boxing Club and she decided to try a jab at it! The training was so different to anything she had ever done before and the coach Tony was so welcoming that she immediately became hooked. Unfortunately, later in the year she received an injury to her knee which meant she could not train as much and she had surgery in September 2013. She returned to training after her surgery, but then in February 2014 she began her travels and the move to NY.
After relocating to New York, Laura found it difficult to find a new gym and train whilst embarking on a new career. Something was always more important and training became an after thought. Laura and her fiancé William spent some time back in Ireland in early 2016 and this is when she got a taste for training again. She started attending Relentless Muay Thai classes with her cousin Aoife. Although she enjoyed Muay Thai, the kicking wasn't her forte! Once she returned to NY she didn't want to lose her fitness regime and in June 2016 she began training at Overthrow New York. From the minute she started training here she felt like she had found a sanctuary for her to learn and develop her boxing to the next level. "I have made so many friends from training at Overthrow, everyone who works or trains there is amazing and they all inspire me."
Laura suffers from anxiety and depression and she has found boxing to be such a healthy influence in her life. "Boxing helps me both mentally and physically to channel my negativity into positivity. If I am having a bad day, you can guarantee that bag is going get hit extra hard. I am so happy to have discovered boxing as a coping mechanism and a stability in my life. Participating in Fighters4Life is definitely something out of my comfort zone, but helping young people is something I am so passionate towards. As kids we develop the skills we bring with us throughout life, thats why it is so important to nurture and engage positively with children to give them the best possible future. The two most important people in my life are my 6 year old brother Ryan and my 3 month old baby sister Caitlin. I am fighting for their dreams along with all the other amazing kids worldwide."
