BENEFITING: HABITAT FOR HUMANITY-REBUILD MICHIGAN
EVENT: Mighty Mac Swim 2016
EVENT DATE: Sep 05, 2016
I was a competitive swimmer from the age of 8-18. I’ve always had a love for the water. However, I took a 30 year hiatus from swimming. After a severe neck and back injury, I found myself back in the water. I’ve found swimming to be one exercise that doesn’t aggravate my back. In February of 2015, I started lap swimming at the local aquatic center and in August of 2015, I entered my very first Open Water swim. I successfully completed a 5K swim at Swim to the Moon. During that competition, I garnered a love for open water swimming!
Over the last two years, I have lost half of my body weight. This has given me a new lease on life.
When I’m not swimming, I enjoy reading, writing, and playing with my two dogs, Sea Biscuit and Bentley. Presently, I am a therapy dog handler with Bentley, where we volunteer at two local hospitals in our area. I also volunteer as a Canine Support Assistant at Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester, Michigan. Currently, my application has been approved to raise a future leader dog puppy, so I am patiently waiting to meet the furry bundle of joy!
I’m stoked to be swimming the Mighty Mac and raising money for a great cause, Habitat for Humanity. THANK YOU in advance for your support!
