Laurel Run Relay and The Laurel-thon
EVENT DATE: JUL 15, 2016
Laurel Run is an annual event in Silver Creek, NY, that celebrates the potential that exists within individuals with special needs. Created by Wayne and Elaine Hotelling in honor of their oldest daughter, Laurel Run consists of events such as a 5-kilometer walk and an 8K run. The 20th annual Laurel Run takes place July 16. Money raised through Laurel Run supports people with disabilities in Western New York through three organizations – The Resource Center, TRC Foundation and Filling the Gap, Inc.
The day before Laurel Run, we hold a 30-mile relay run. Groups of volunteers from local schools and businesses take turns transporting Laurel Run flags from Jamestown to Dunkirk. In 2013, we added a new twist when two people offered to run the entire 30-mile relay route themselves. Thus was born The Laurel-thon, and each year several hardy souls undertake this grueling challenge to demonstrate support for people with special needs.
