EVENT DATE: Sep 28, 2014
Thanks for viewing my fundraiser! I am an organizing volunteer for this event as well as a participant. I'd appreciate any support you can give!
As you may know, meditation and social change are two of my greatest passions. This fundraiser combines both by bringing meditation to college students! Pranathon is an (awesome) event to raise money to sustain a meditation curriculum at UC Berkeley (aka "Cal"). We are funding a campus club & for-credit class centered around meditation, yogic knowledge, creative expression & human values/social justice. (Wow! I wish this had been in my college's curriculum!!)
I believe today's college students are the future change-makers of our world so I want them to have every opportunity to experience inner peace & self realization! What if meditators were to become the next wave of leaders?!
I dearly wish that I had access to meditation & yogic wisdom when I was in my undergrad years. College is a stressful and intense time and a lot of students isolate themselves, or turn to partying and other destructive behaviors to relieve the pressure or make friends. I was no different! I didn't know there was another way. And I saw my own life and the lives of many friends drastically impacted by poor decisions. I love the idea that I am now helping college students to have more options--giving them a chance to learn a new way to be, new resources to manage their stress, new ways to create enriching relationships!
So, What is PRANATHON?
Pranathon is an opportunity for Cal students and Berkeley community members to raise our “prana” - life force energy - by reconnecting with our bodies, refreshing our minds, stretching our imaginations, and celebrating life with each other. Throughout the nine hours, participants will rejuvenate themselves and build community through meditation & yoga, dance & music, art & creative writing, games & interactive theater.
Proceeds of Pranathon will benefit UC Berkeley’s Art of Living Club, which organizes Yesplus meditation, conscious living, and prana-raising events and programs on campus, so that students can connect to themselves, each other, and to a deeper sense of purpose.
Why and how do I join Pranathon?
Do you believe that college students need to learn how to tap into natural energy, joy, connections, and positive community, so they can enter the world as vibrant, resilient, compassionate leaders? Do you want to support this cause by challenging yourself to raise your own life-force energy together with us on September 28?
To join Pranathon, come to the event at 1pm, or create your own fundraiser page here on crowdrise, and pay the minimum amount ($15 for students, $25 for community members). Take a little selfie video and write about why you support this cause. Make it personal. Make it real - about your own experiences in college or in life, where you wished you knew how to celebrate life even in the midst of chaos and struggle.
THEN set a fundraising goal, and raise as much money as you can through social media, your friends and family, and any other fabulous ideas. We'll announce the biggest fundraisers at the event!
What happens during Pranathon?
During this lively and engaging event, Pranathoners will move our bodies in dance and yoga and refresh our minds through guided meditation and kirtan (Sanskrit singing). We will explore our creativity through art, music, writing, and theater, and learn through direct experience how to raise our prana in our everyday lives. Pranathon inspires meaningful connections - an opportunity to unplug our phones and our laptops and relate to each other on a very human level.
Who is behind Pranathon?
Pranathon is being hosted by the Art of Living Berkeley chapter, to build conscious community in Berkeley and to raise funds for UC Berkeley student activities. We collaborate with Berkeley’s yoga and dance studios, theater and arts programs, healthy restaurants and cafes to offer diverse programming and goods by local businesses.
