DAY TO GO
Lauren Steele was born and raised on her family's cattle farm in Missouri, where small town rural life instilled a work ethic and character that she has taken with her all around the world.
After graduating from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, she moved to the mountains of New Mexico to work at Outside magazine. There, she learned to crave the challenge of mountain athletics such as rock climbing and skiing, as well as endurance running. In 2014, she packed up her car and moved to New York City to pursue a freelance writing career. She now writes for Rolling Stone, Vice, Men's Journal, Men's Health, Men's Fitness, and other national publications.
Steele has won half marathons, qualified for the Boston Marathon twice, and finished trail ultramarathons that are 50 miles and longer. The same process of enduring and persisting through not only physical strain--but also mental challenge--is what drew her to boxing after making NYC her home.
"Every challenge in your life--from those that feel like they will break your heart or your back or your will--they are the breakdowns that lead to breakthroughs," she says. "I don't want things to come easy, because the harder I work for something and the more courage it demands of me, the more I want it."
She is trained by Baruc Martinez of Martinez Boxing at Church Street Boxing Gym in Manhattan. This will be her first fight.
