BENEFITING: GIRLS ON THE RUN NYC
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
Mileage Tracker: 100
Hello! My name's Lauren Morrell, and I'm running the NYC Marathon this November to raise money for Girls on the Run - a running and mentoring program benefiting hundreds of girls across the country.
Some background on how I got involved in the Girls on the Run Solemates marathon program -- Throughout my four years at Dartmouth, I mentored two middle school aged sisters through the DREAM program. Upon moving to New York, I sought out a similar program within the city and was drawn to Girls on the Run. After participating as a mentor in one of the 5K races, I wanted to get more involved, but options for volunteering were limited for someone on the road four days a week. After speaking to a few members of the GOTR team, I found out about the Solemates charity running arm of the organization and said sign-me-uuup.
I've been running since high school, completing four half marathons in the past few years, but this is my first marathon. NERVOUS! EXCITED! To guarantee my entry, I need to raise $3,000 by the beginning of November, and I would really appreciate any support you can provide!
If you have any questions or want to hear more about the program please don't hesitate to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Girls on the Run background:
Girls on the Run is a transformational learning program for 8 to 13 year-old girls, focused on teaching life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.
