I can say from firsthand experience that exercise, outdoor exploration, and passionate teachers growing up all played a huge role in who I am today - the kind of person who wants to push her limits, work hard, and voluntarily run 26.2 miles on November 2nd in the 2014 NYC Marathon.
Unfortunately, a lot of kids in our own backyard don't have those valuable experiences available to them. That's why I'm dedicating my training and my race to the Discover Outdoors Foundation - and I'd love your support!
The Discover Outdoors Foundation, which began in 2013, is committed to getting NYC Public School kids outside to explore their world, lead active lives, and take time away from the constant flashing screens and noise of modern life to really look inward. In learning about the outdoors, they start to learn about what's inside as well.
There are some scary numbers out there - like the fact that 31% of kids in the US are dropping out of school, or that childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years.
But there's a more exciting number - 435, the number of students DOF was able to support programs for in its very first year. It's a number which has already been met and passed in 2014. And with your support, that number can continue to grow!
And a number that matters to me - 26.2 - will have a little more meaning behind it.
Please consider donating today and help me reach my goal of $1,000 for this awesome cause!
