THE STORY:
Worldwide at least 793 million people are illiterate. Two-thirds of them are women. Research shows that children learn to read and write best by writing and telling stories of their own experiences. Yet it is rare to find safe spaces where children feel fully comfortable to express themselves through the power of story.
Litworld is changing that.
Litworld implements on-the-ground innovative solutions to the challenge of illiteracy worldwide. The combined power of children’s own stories + access to diverse reading/writing experiences + peer to peer and adult mentor relationships = productive and transformational literacy. We work in close partnership with locally based, grassroots organizations to build sustainable outcomes for young people around the world.
LitWorld is a non-profit literacy organization fostering resilience, hope, and joy through the power of story.
Our programs build self confidence, promote leadership, and strengthen children and their communities in some of the world's most impoverished areas. LitWorld's programs cultivate a new generation of leaders, storytellers and academic achievers, effecting change for themselves, their community, and their world. Our campaigns mobilize children and adults from around the globe to advocate for literacy as a basic human right that belongs to all people.
I am running the More Women's Half-Marathon for Litworld because I believe so strongly in the mission of this extraordinary organization. Please consider giving a donation of any amount and check out our website at www.litworld.org.
Thank you so much!!
