98% of all victims suffer from financial abuse. Tammy's journey was one that financial abuse played a major role. You see her husband took everything he had purchased for her and her children along with their birth certificates and social security cardsand burned them. After the incident as mad as she was she struggled with how could she leave you see, she still loved him. The breaking point came the day they had an arguement and it became physical and her oldest tried to defend her and got hurt in the process. So she made the decision to leave and her and her four boys came to stay with us. We helped replace the items that he burned but the identifaction was a bit harder and time consuming. You see since she did not have identifacation she could not open another account so she tried to change the pin number and sign in for the account her childrens' disability check went into and every time he would be notified from the bank and change it to something different so she could not get access. So she has no identifaction to get a job, an apartment, or even open a new account. We had to wait for the replacement items with everyone we secured , we would apply for the next. This took weeks and she waited in limbo. When we were finally able to open a new account it was a celebration for her and our staff. Her and boys were with us for over 120 days. When she left us to her own home free from violence she had a new job, a new home and new beginning for her and her children.
