BENEFITING: Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation
EVENT DATE: Oct 13, 2013
I have always wanted to run the Chicago Marathon in honor of my dad, Emerson Ladd, who inspired me to start running when I was 16 years old. He ran the first organized Chicago Marathon in 1977! This Spring was the second time I tried to register for the Chicago Marathon, they had so many applicants trying to register that the system broke down. Ten days later they re-opened registration as a lottery for the last spots available, unfortunately, I was not picked...Fortunately, my sister was able to register!!
I have decided to raise money for Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation in exchange for an entry into the 36th annual Chicago Marathon!
My nephew, Peter DeSpain was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma at the age of 11, it was a very difficult 2 years for all of our family, but especially for my sister Jennifer, her husband, Kevin and their children, Olivia, Abbey, Peter and Ellie. I am blessed to say that Peter will be 18 in November 2013 and he is cancer-free, thanks to the amazing care he received from his doctors in Houston, TX!!
Everyone knows someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, but pediatric cancer is especially heartbreaking. I hope you will donate to the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, every little bit helps!! God Bless!
