BENEFITING: WINKLE INSTITUTE
The Heirloom Seed Library is a program of Long Beach Grows committed to increasing our community's ability to feed themselves tasty, wholesome food by offering seeds and education. Because we want to encourage low-income people to grow their own food, participation is free, although we accept donations from people who can.
We have been sharing the LBGROWS Heirloom Seed Library with the community for over two years. Our library is the largest in SoCal with over 850 varieties of heirloom, open-pollinated vegetable and flower seeds, shared at workshops, community events, or by arrangement. Participants share it forward (grow plants to seed then share with others) to preserve diversity of our food supply and freedom to grow GMO-free food.
We have partnered with the Long Beach Public Library to develop our first self-service outpost at the Main Branch where we will offer a selection of our seed and our workshops on growing food from seed, including proper ways to save, store, and sprout seeds. This and additional seed outposts will increase the number of people we can reach. Our goal of $2,500 is to match support for our seed project's immediate needs.
Your financial support is needed NOW and will also help as match for other grant proposals. Won’t you please help? Any amount would be greatly appreciated.
