BENEFITING: LOWELL COMMUNITY CHARTER SCHOOL FRIENDS INC
Lowell Community Charter Public School is an inner city K-8 school located in Lowell, Massachusetts. A majority of the students are from low income families, many of whom are immigrant families. Five of our students have worked extremely hard and have made it to the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Humble, TX. We just have to find a way to get there.
These middle school boys are extremely hard working, dedicated, and committed athletes. No matter if it takes them 45 minutes to travel by city bus, 30 minutes to walk, or carpooling with friends, each and every one of these boys knows the importance of hard work and commitment. They make it to practice rain or shine with their game faces on each day.
Juan Carlos has been training for 4 years for this moment, to make it to Nationals. He works hard on and off the track. His goal is to follow in the footsteps of legendary Prefontaine and go to college out in Oregon. His passion is running and knows that hard work will get him there.
Tyrese has been running for 3 years now. He is an excellent student and a dedicated athlete. He knows how to persevere through hardship to gain the glory of a victory. This will be his second experience at the National Level. Tyrese is not afraid to push himself to set high standards and reach those goals.
Jesse has grown up here in Lowell but his family is from Kenya and he visits often. He has been training for 3 years and missed out on his opportunity last year. Jesse set out this year to be the best he could be, making a goal to reach this level of competition.
Evans has dedication written all over him. This is his 2nd year running. Starting off the season as a sprinter, the mid-distance relay needed another person. Without hesitation, he went from running 200m to 800m. His hard work and "can-do" attitude proves that he will take on any challenge and follow through to his best ability. You see this on and off the track, setting great examples to others.
Allan moved to the US from Kenya when he was 7 years old. He has faced many obstacles throughout his years. But nothing stands in the way of his goals. His determination and perseverance is commendable. He strives to be one of the best in all aspects of his life proving to all those "that said he could not do it" that he will go all the way.
$5000 will get our team to Humble, TX, and will show these students that hard work pays off.
