My Grandpa Ken was diagnosed with pancreatic caner in March 2014. With pancreatic cancer patients only having a 4% survival rate of five years, this news was devastating to me. After undergoing six months of chemotherapy, he lost his battle in September 2014. My Grandpa always supported his Grandchildren to be their best and participate in activities, and running was one of them. In his honor, I am running the Good Life Halfsy in November 2015 and am raising money for Project Purple to help kick cancer's butt! I "ran" across Project Purple after the Lincoln Marathon in May 2015 and immediately told my husband I have to be apart of the team. Project Purple is a non-profit organization raising awareness and funding to help defeat pancreatic cancer. The organization also supports patients and families who have been affected by the disease through a Financial Aid program. Early detection testing is key to defeating pancreatic cancer, possibly increasing the survival rate . The money donated through this campaign goes directly to researching a cure and the early detection test, so far over $220,000 has been donated to research centers. Let's keep the funding coming! My sincerest gratitude to those that are able to help financially or with motivational words. This cause is near and dear to my and my family's heart so I know a big THANK YOU comes from all of us. The littlest donation helps!
