Hi my friends!
I am joining this crowdsource to help raise money for scholarships for kids who are planning to go to college. Lots of the kids in LA who may have gotten scholarships or aid don't have the funds to help them during their time in college. If we can collectively raise a few dollars, or tens of dollars, we can compound it into a nice scholarship.
Here is a story of one of our kids!
UC Berkeley is Estefany's dream college and at her Alliance high school, she was a true community leader. She founded the Health and Medicine Club at her school, volunteered as peer tutor and at the local YMCA, and led numerous student clubs including the Math, Science and Engineering Club - all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Sadly, when she was accepted to her dream college, the high tuition was an impossible barrier for Estefany and her family. In 2014, YPN awarded Estefany a $25,000 scholarship to help her realize this dream.
Estefany shares her feelings from this experience:
“You did not simply give me a scholarship, you gave me hope and opportunities.”
“Being among the first in my community to go to college and take STEM courses at Berkeley is both an honor and a challenge. The transition to college was tough because I had to take ownership and push to be added into adjunct courses and workshops, join study groups and seek out answers to tough questions through office hours. Over the short course of a year, all of these experiences have molded me into a more driven and grateful individual. In facing these academic challenges, I was grateful for the financial stability granted to me by your investment in my education. Because my family would not have been able to support the economic burden, I would not be at college today without this blessing.”
Our hope is to help more promising students, many of whom are the first in their families to go to college and could be the next inventor, entrepreneur or mayor – a future Leader of Change. Your donation will directly support a high-achieving senior who might otherwise not have the means to go to college.
Help us reach our campaign goal of raising $10,000 towards the Leaders of Change Scholarship Fund, ending on Dec. 31, 2015. Your support can help pay for housing, books, tuition, and other resources so that students who go above and beyond can continue to succeed and better their communities. Thank you!
