THE STORY:
My name is Matthew Stratford, and I am a Sophomore at Fordham University and I am originally from Manhasset, Long Island- the same town that Jimmy Regan was raised.
When Jimmy was killed in 2007, in Iraq, I was in fifth grade- and understood little about the sacrifice that our military members make, so that I can live a peaceful, blessed and safe life. However, as time has progressed, that sacrifice has become apparent to me. The members of our military community have grown to be my role models and inspiration.
When I read about Jimmy’s courage, selflessness, and patriotism, it makes me proud to be an American. The sacrifice that our military members have made for our country, makes me determined to live a fuller, more productive, and more appreciative lifestyle.
Next November, I will be running the NYC Marathon for the Lead The Way Fund- a 501c3 non-profit organization, founded in Jimmy’s honor. Lead The Way was established to raise funds in support of disabled U.S. Army Rangers and the families of Rangers who have died, have been injured or are currently serving in harm’s way around the world.
