Join us for a safe and fun bike ride to raise money for social justice in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 17!
About the ride: We will travel approximately 10 miles through Center City, South Philly, and West Philly to visit locations of significance to organizations working for racial and economic justice in our City: Decarcerate PA and #No215Jail; Girls Justice League; Spiral Q; and the Philadelphia Coalition for Affordable Communities. Trained volunteers will lead the group, ensuring safe riding and that no participants are left behind.
No Bike? No Problem! Indego, Philadelphia’s bike share program, is offering a discount code for participants that will be emailed after riders complete the registration. If the Indego program doesn’t work for you, email us directly & we’ll help connect you with two wheels for the ride.
About The Day: We will begin with a complimentary breakfast, donated from Rowhouse Grocery, in Center City at 8:30am. While eating and mingling with fellow riders and social justice supporters, you will receive a Thank You gift bag, which includes a Change Ride water bottle, an overview of the route, riding safety tips, a handmade map of social justice, and a special gift from our friends at Fairmount Bicycles. Then we will hop on our bicycles to do the ride. Along the way, to meet representatives from each organization who will tell us about their history and the focus of their current work. We’ll end our ride at approximately 1:00pm at a shaded area in Fairmount Park, where we’ll enjoy fantastic food from our friends at South Philly Barbacoa.
Who Benefits From Funds Raised: The money you raise will support the meaningful work of Bread & Roses community fund, a unique gathering of activists committed to supporting social justice by raising and distributing funds. In its 39 year-history, Bread & Roses has distributed over $10 million in the Philadelphia region to groups working for access to health care; economic justice; a clean, safe environment; civil and human rights; peace; and more. Bread & Roses also provides services, like technical assistance and leadership development, to grantees and donors.
To support the critical work of Bread & Roses, we are suggesting that Individuals set a fundraising goal of $125 and Teams raise $400. However, we would be thrilled if you set your sights higher and raised more to help fight for social justice in Philadelphia!
We will also offer fundraising support to those who want to build their skills to ask for donations from their community. Keep your eyes peeled for periodic emails with fundraising tips and, in the meantime, don’t hesitate to email us (email@example.com) if you want additional advice or assistance.
