Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!!
I couldn’t be more thrilled that two things that are so important to me – volunteering at the New York Junior League and running – are coming together!! To know me is to know how much I love both! So how could I pass up an opportunity to do something I love for an organization I love?!!
Why do I love this organization? One of the greatest things about the NYJL is that the more time and energy I’ve put into the organization the more I get out in return. Our 2,600 volunteers come from every conceivable background all over the world, but they all have one thing in common: they are all positive examples of strong leadership! Spending so much time around these accomplished, inspiring women has instilled me with a level of confidence to achieve things I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. One thing every volunteer has in common is the willingness to go the extra mile, and I am continually motivated by that spirit of generosity.
And although I’ve personally spent more than half of my NYJL “career” on the support side, I get teary-eyed pretty quickly when I think about the great work that the NYJL does in the NYC community. Whether it’s running life skills workshops at Covenant House; providing job search training (where to start, resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, etc) through our work at Women In Need’s Jennie Clarke Residence and East River Family Center, Homes for the Homeless’s Clinton Family Inn, the English-Speaking Union, Minds Matter, and more; or partnering with New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Domestic and Other Violence Emergencies (DOVE) program to offer advocacy, emotional support, and information to survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault during their stay in the ER, the work we do is critical.
In total, there are more than 20 community partners who rely on the NYJL to devote much-needed funds and tens of thousands of hours of work per year to provide essential services to the community that they simply don’t have the capacity to provide on their own.
Our NYC community partners know that the NYJL will do whatever it takes to get the job done, but we know we can’t do it alone…..so here is where my love of running becomes relevant! Two things are happening for the first time:
the NYJL is fielding a team to fundraise in the NYC marathon
I’m fundraising (what?!?!)
I have to be honest, after five marathons the thought of running 26.2 miles doesn’t faze me too much anymore, but fundraising does!! However the NYJL is also a training organization and devoted to developing the potential of women and they’ve taught me to push myself farther than I thought I could. So I decided to go for it!!
Give a little or a lot, but please know that no matter what I will be tremendously grateful from the bottom of my heart- and ultimately, so will a New Yorker in need.
THANK YOU TO INFINITY AND BEYOND MY FRIENDS!!!!!!!! YOU ARE ALL WONDERFUL!!!!!
