LEAP FROG PROGRAM

Leap Frog's Mission

The mission of Leap Frog is to provide a nurturing environment in which “at-risk” students can develop and enhance necessary skills for academic success, build productive, ongoing relationships with adults, and improve their self-esteem.

What is Leap Frog?

• Leap Frog is a non-profit after-school tutoring and mentoring program that

serves 140 at-risk 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders from Oxford City and Lafayette county schools in Mississippi.

• Classroom teachers refer students who they feel are at-risk for falling behind

academically, and or, need extra TLC, and whose parents aren’t able to afford private tutoring.

• Lafayette County students attend Leap Frog on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Oxford city students attend Leap Frog on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students receive one hour of one-on-one tutoring. They are paired with one consistent tutor all semester.

• Students also participate in our enrichment activities and “Leap into Shape” exercise program.

•  By the end of the school year in May 2014, we had 76% of our students reading on grade level.  We also had 81% of our students progress to the next grade level.  One hundred percent of our third graders progressed to fourth grade, all of which were reading on grade level when they exited the program.

• We use over 200 volunteers a semester from the University of Mississippi.

• Students are bussed to their site, and parents or guardians are responsible for picking them up.
