EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
As a runner born and raised in Massachusetts, I always wanted to run the Boston Marathon. I had that opportunity last year while at the same time fundraising for The Learning Prep School, an innovative, educational special needs school for students, ages 8 to 22, with language-based learning disabilities. I am so honored to be running in the 2017 Boston Marathon, once again fundraising for Learning Prep School.
My marathon experience last year was nothing like what I expected. The weather was hot at the start and cold at the finish, not ideal for a marathon. And having never before run a marathon, I did not have a good race strategy grounded in data. I really struggled to finish the race, which is why I’m even more excited about running the marathon again and fundraising for Learning Prep School. Prior to last year's race I got to meet many of the students at an LPS rally, and my sister Staci, a middle school math teacher at LPS for 15 years, invited me to spend time in her classroom. So I’m doubly excited to be raising money that will directly benefit these amazing kids.
Staci also told me why she is still there after 15 years: "Students at Learning Prep have to work so much harder than your typical students to achieve the same goals. I love working with students who try and try again, never giving up, and I love seeing their faces light up when they figure something out. Their fails are my fails; their accomplishments are my accomplishments. We work together, giving 100% every day, reaching for the same goals.”
I work for a local learning science company and I frequently hear our leader say “every student learns differently”. Nowhere is that statement truer than at the Learning Prep School. However, the school can’t operate at its best on its fixed budget, which is set by the state of Massachusetts. To maintain excellence, it depends heavily on donations to be able to upgrade technology like iPads, provide needed science equipment, art supplies, seed, soil and fertilizer for the school’s greenhouse, plus so much more.
Please help me reach my $7,000 goal for these wonderful kids by making a tax-deductible donation to the school. By helping me you’re helping them. Thanks for your consideration.
In addition to being a runner I’m also a father to a beautifully independent almost-four-year old and husband to a wonderfully supportive wife.
